THE VIEWING

" Why don't you guys take the train tonight? "

One of the saddest movies I've seen in a long time.   I’m not the type that ‘always’ needs a happy ending when I’m at the show but it certainly would have been welcomed, had it not been based on a true story.  Warning, make sure you are at peace before entering the movie auditorium.  This is one of those films that will get you ALL riled up.

In perfect order the story begins with the short video that went viral in 2009.  Brilliantly done because videos [like that one] are so often digested only for a short period of time then we move on to something else especially when we’re online. Director Ryan Coogler makes it virtually impossible to look and dismiss the video.  the reason why is that he follows it up with an amazing story.  A tense, nerve wrecking, beautiful [cinematography], and moving film.  Although slow paced the film never lagged. So often when watching bio-pics, my belief is that the subject is usually being exaggerated as a really good person throughout  the film so that we feel for them.  I love how Ryan Coogler and the writers tapered that, showing the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Everyone casted did an outstanding job.  Michael B. Jordan was a perfect for this role.  I encourage all to take a look… if you're up for it.  Come armed with a box of tissue or a strong fountain drink…. It’s going to be a pretty rough emotional roller coaster ride.

Worth it!  letter grade: A
